My parents were in town this past weekend, and we decided to load up and go to the drive-thru safari. It’s a huge preserve with driving trails snaking through the pastures. The animals travel in groups and are largely permitted to wander at will. It was a hot day, so many were playing in the water or resting in the shade of trees. Still, they’re conditioned to being fed by the cars, so they were more than happy to get up in hopes of being fed. The kids had a wonderful time. Even more special, with our visit coming much later in the season than our first one, many of the herds travelled with their young. My favorite was a group of 13 tiny emu running around with their mom.
