These parables are not to be treated as strict allegories…. They stand here, in order that important truths may be suggested from smaller matters. A good example is the story of the judge who neither teared God nor regarded man, and yet yielded to the widow—not from piety or humanity, but merely to be spared some annoyance. The unjust judge himself does not in any way allegorically represent the person of God…. Yet the story does show how even an unworthy man, acting from petty motives, cannot disregard those who assail him with unceasing petitions.
