I feel a sense of separation, having been unable to receive the Eucharist physically. We do have to endure this physical separation for a time.

COVID-19
March 16,2020In late February, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that Americans should prepare for major disruptions in the coming weeks. If last week was any indication, we all ought to buckle up!
We’re not the first ones to take on this challenge. We have great examples around the world of how people, societies, and governments are responding. Although Wuhan was locked down and people had to remain in their homes, public order didn’t collapse. The supply chain continued and people were able to get the food and supplies that they needed. That’s a huge relief! The pioneer spirit of America is re-emerging, and I’m going to make the most of these next few weeks at home with the kids. I’m going to fly my American flag outside every day, weather permitting. We’re all in this together.
First, I’m going to implement a reliable structure to our day. I’ve been out of sync and this extended period of stability gives me the perfect platform to get back into my routine. That means more intentional time together, education, work, and play. My kids are too young to understand what’s going on, but the rhythm of our days together should help them continue to feel safe and secure. Next, I’m working on a special project list in Things. I’m going to accomplish one indoor project and one outdoor project every day. It’s spring cleaning time, and I suddenly have the opportunity to deep clean my house and conduct a proper lawn season opener. Many of these projects are things that I haven’t had time to tackle. I’m going to get the kids involved, too.
Last, I’m not planning on going out in public except to pick up online grocery orders. I’ll continue my 5:00am walks since there isn’t anyone else out at that hour. I’m also thankful to be living in a house with a yard, which affords us plenty of safe space to play outside.
We all need to do our part, and my family will do ours. Let’s draw on the inspiration of the people of the United Kingdom during the Battle of Britain: Keep Calm & Carry On.

Twitter’s leadership has talked plenty about wanting to improve civility or ‘health’ as they call it, but they’ve failed to do—or even allow others to do—the actual work.

It gives me a deeper appreciation of the home-bound who rarely can make it to their local parish.
